This picture shows a C-123 Provider which has been modified for
spraying insecticide (you can see the spray boom suspended below the trailing edge of the
wing). Mosquitoes were more than a nuisance in Vietnam. Not only did they thrive in
profusion, but they were also the carriers of disease, most notably, malaria. These spray
planes made weekly runs around U.S. installations in an attempt to suppress the little
