This hydroelectric dam was located about 12 nautical miles southeast
of Dalat Cam Ly. The lake was named after the close by town of Ðón Dúóng,
visible in the lower left, and was called Hô (Lake) Ðón Dúóng (the purists out there
will have to excuse my use of the Western-style accents to approximate the Vietnamese).
In the upper part of the picture can be seen the low clouds and fog which filled
the valleys in this area in the early morning and raised havoc with our operations.
We could fly instrument approaches, but only if the airfield had suitable
navigation aids. Most of the fields we frequented had no nav aids at all. |
