Tiger Grouper (Mycteroperca tigris)
This fierce-looking critter is actually quite tame (although I don't think I would like to
have him home in on one of my fingers for lunch!) The Tiger Grouper is a member of the
large family known as "Seabass". They all vary in their willingness to approach
a diver (or vice versa), but this one seemed quite unperturbed by the bubble-blowing
creature beside him. This particular species is typically 1 -2 feet long, although they
get as large as 3 1/2 feet. They are most likely to be found at depths around 50 feet in
Cayman waters. |
