No picture collection of the aircraft of the Vietnam War is complete
without the UH-1 "Huey". They were omnipresent and a stalwart of U. S. Army air
operations. With a call sign of "Long Knife" (from their incorporation in the
Army Air Cavalry), they usually flew in flights of four. They were armed with 7.62 mm
door-mounted machine guns. With only a single engine and minimal armor, they were very
vulnerable to ground fire, but were a primary means of mounting directed attacks. |
